Printing industry is polluting next to automobiles and steel manufacturing

We all know about printing on paper. But how many of us really know the environmental hazards involved in printing industry? It is shocking to know next to automobiles and steel manufacturing industries comes printing, paper and packaging industy.

Printing uses paper. Producing one ton of paper requires 3 tons of wood, 20000 gallons of water and generates 2250 pounds os solid waste. For bleaching the paper chlorine is used and this process releases dangerous chemicals and pollutants in to water.

Similarly the petroleum based inks cause great damage to the environment leaving volatile organic compounds which leads to cancer and birth defects.

Adhesives, bindings, foils are used in printing and packaging. These makes the final products or wastes unrecyclable and leaves huge landfills.

To address all these environmental issues, ecofriendly printing or environmental friendly printing process has evolved using recycled paper and vegetable based soya inks and aqueous coatings. In eco friendly printing they recylcle aluminium plates and almost 60% of the materials are recycled thus 60% landfills are avoided.

It is our duty to keep the environment clean for the generations to come. So we need to adhere strict policy and go ecofriendly in all major industries.
